No Prescription:
Nexium relieves heartburn and other symptoms caused by the backflow of stomach acid into the canal to the stomach (the esophagus)--a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also prescribed to heal the damage (erosive esophagitis) that reflux disease can cause.
Prescribed in combination with the antibiotics Biaxin and Amoxil, Nexium is also used to treat the infection that causes most duodenal ulcers (ulcers occurring just beyond the exit from the stomach).
Like its sister drug Prilosec, Nexium works by reducing the production of stomach acid.
Nexium is approved for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and in combination with amoxicillin and clarithromycin (Biaxin) for the treatment of patients with ulcers and H. pylori infection. Since it is very similar to omeprazole, it also is likely that it will be used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Without Prescription:
Nexium is in a class drugs the pump named proton inhibitors (PPIs) which block manufacture of an acid by a stomach. Another drugs in the same class includes Prilosec, Prevacid, Aciphex and Protonix. Chemically, Nexium is very similar omeprazole. Proton inhibitors of the pump are used for treatment of conditions such as a stomach and duodenal ulcers, illness of outflow gastroesophageal (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison a syndrome which all are caused by an acid of a stomach. Nexium, similarly to other inhibitors of the proton pump, blocks enzyme within the precincts of a stomach which makes an acid. Blocking enzyme, manufacture of an acid is reduced, and it allows stomach and esophagus to heal. Nexium has been approved FDA in February 2001.
This prescription is approved for treatment of illness of outflow gastroesophageal (GERD) and in a combination with amoxicillin and Biaxin for treatment of patients with ulcers and and H. pylori infection. As it is very similar omeprazole, also it is probable, that it will be used for treatment Zollinger-Ellison of a syndrome.
